About Me

Curious by nature. Journalist by purpose

The two things that define me are, first, an observer and, second, a storyteller.

My name is Sofia Galarneau, and I am a journalist studying at Boston University.

Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, I have always been fascinated by the media: how information circulates, how audiences receive it and how narratives shape our understanding of the world. I am drawn to the stories unfolding around me and the opportunity to tell them in ways that inform, engage and resonate with others.

I currently serve as managing print editor of The Buzz magazine at BU, where I oversee editorial planning and production. My first print edition was published in spring 2026, with the next edition scheduled for December 2027. I also contribute opinion pieces to the magazine and write lifestyle stories for the The Daily Free Press.

Journalism’s multimedia nature is part of what makes it so powerful. Beyond print, I am passionate about broadcast journalism and serve as the features correspondent for The Wire at the university.

I am excited to see where my journalism career will take me. Above all, I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from others and to share their stories.

I believe one of the greatest tools a person can possess is not simply the ability to look outward, but the willingness to care about what they see.
